Intelligent Railway Alignment Design offers a comprehensive exploration of intelligent railway alignment optimization. The book considers a variety of critical topics, starting with the optimal selection of key technical standards for railway design and then introduces the comprehensive geographic information model. The methods for evaluating the suitability of the railway alignment based on the comprehensive geographic information model are discussed, together with economic optimization models aimed at cost-effective railway alignment design. In addition, the book considers optimization models for managing risks related to typical geological hazards and minimizing environmental impacts.

Intelligent search algorithms for solving railway alignment optimization models are explained in detail, including corridor searching algorithms and 3D alignment searching algorithms. Additionally, the book explores concurrent optimization strategies for coordinating railway alignments with stations and large temporary engineering projects. Hao Pu

Hao Pu is a professor with Railway Engineering Department, School of Civil Engineering, Central South University. He is the author of four books and more than fifty articles. His research interests include computer-aided design of road and railway, network-based three-dimensional simulation and visualization, virtual reality, road and railway alignment optimization, and network-based visualization for operation and management of mechanical and electrical equipment. He is the chairman of the Digital Construction Department in National Engineering Laboratory for High Speed Railway Construction Technology and Vice-chairman of the Alignment Department in China Railway Society

Paul Schonfeld

Paul Schonfeld has been a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environment Engineering, University of Maryland, since 1993. He has experience in analyzing various transportation systems, including railroads and rail transit systems, road networks and traffic management systems, freight logistics, inland waterways and airports. He has published over 240 journal papers and served as Editor of the Journal of Advanced Transportation and ASCE's Journal of Transportation Engineering. He is a Fellow of ASCE and ITE
