Descripción

Geostatistical Approaches to Environmental and Public Health Issues is a timely and comprehensive examination of how geostatistical techniques can be leveraged to better understand and respond to pressing environmental and public health challenges. As the availability of large-scale spatial and temporal data continues to grow, so too does the demand for advanced tools that can navigate the complexity of real-world phenomena. This volume bridges methodological innovation with applied research, making it an essential resource for scientists, policymakers, and public health practitioners. Environmental and health-related events—such as air and water pollution, disease outbreaks, nutritional deficits, maternal and child health risks, and exposure to natural hazards like floods, droughts, and earthquakes—are inherently spatial and often uncertain. Traditional statistical models fall short in capturing the intricate patterns and dependencies involved. This book showcases how techniques like kriging, spatial regression, Bayesian modeling, and space-time analysis offer powerful, nuanced insights into these issues. Emphasizing stochastic, non-deterministic approaches, the volume highlights the importance of modeling uncertainty in both environmental and health domains. Through case studies and research-driven chapters, it demonstrates how integrating geospatial and statistical methods can enhance our understanding of where, why, and how events occur—ultimately improving the precision of health interventions and environmental policies. By aligning cutting-edge statistical approaches with the geospatial dimensions of health and environmental data, this book fills a critical gap in the literature and supports more targeted, data-driven decision-making in the face of global uncertainty.
